Debbie Flannery was a white, divorced mother in her mid-forties with two girls that were both off to college.
She had handled Elijah's case for four years, and she was absolutely heartbroken that not one of the places worked out.
For four long years, she would go home and worry about this young black boy, who she found to be sweet, intelligent, and quite charming.
Night after night, she would sit on the edge of her bed and cry, wondering if Elijah was safe and being taken care of.
After talking to her priest and her two daughters, she realized that she needed to step in to save Elijah to ease her worry.
