It's not that difficult to figure out. Your simply refer to them by the same name currently used for that article of clothing. Panties is mostly an American term, while Nickers is/was mostly U.K. term from years ago. If we go decades and decades back in time the term would be bloomers along with the other items the girls/women wore during the Victorian era.
